Chrome Extension Information
The FinelySourced Chrome Extension currently analyzes supported Amazon product pages that you choose to visit. Before the first scan, the Extension shows an in-product disclosure and asks you to select Allow scanning. It computes a local estimate first. When server scoring is available, the Extension sends bounded product-page fields to finelysourced.com over HTTPS.
When you use the Extension on an Amazon product page, we may collect:
- Product page URL
- Product title
- Product description
- Ingredient list
- Nutrition information
- Product attributes displayed on the page
- Product image URL (the URL only, not the image itself)
- Detected ingredient matches, claims, product identifiers, and score context
- Other bounded product information visible on the page that is necessary to analyze the product
We may also collect technical information such as:
- IP address
- Browser version
- Extension version
- Operating system
- Request timestamps
- A scoped anonymous connection token when server scoring is first used
- Error logs and diagnostic information
This information is used only to provide product analysis, generate quality scores, improve our scoring methodology, maintain our product database, and improve the reliability of our services.
Chrome Extension Permissions
The Chrome Extension requests permission to access supported Amazon product URL patterns so it can analyze products and generate FinelySourced quality scores and recommendations. It also requests storage for settings and bounded result caching, and alarms to resume an in-progress server score.
The Extension does not monitor your browsing activity outside Amazon product pages. You can stop scanning and clear local scan data from the Options page at any time.
The Extension does not access:
- Passwords
- Credit card information
- Banking information
- Email contents
- Personal messages
- Files stored on your device
- Form data unrelated to the Extension
- Browsing activity on unrelated websites
Local Storage
The Chrome Extension stores a limited amount of information using Chrome's storage APIs, including:
- Scanning permission and user preferences
- Scoped connection tokens when server scoring is enabled
- Cached result fields such as the product URL, title, ingredients, and score
- Workflow state needed to finish an in-progress server score
This information is stored locally to operate the Extension and improve your experience. Raw page-text extraction is not stored in the durable local analysis cache.
The website may also use browser storage where necessary to remember preferences and improve usability.
